Leslie’s Legacy: Writing About Place

KMWP announces the 2016 Leslie Walker Writers of Promise Writing Contest.

Leslie Walker was a KMWP fellow who strived to create community in her classroom through writing about place. This ongoing effort was realized through her dedication to teaching writing to her students. To continue Leslie’s work, we invite teachers to prompt their students to experiment writing about a specific place. What they express in their writing may be factual, imagined, or a combination of both. Help Leslie Walker’s legacy live on by adding the KMWP Leslie Walker Writers of Promise Contest to your annual plans. Digital submissions accepted on our contest page.

This year, we will update our contest page with links to lessons for writing about place, and we invite you to share your writing prompts and lesson ideas with us. Email mary.stillerman@gmail.com with your ideas. To launch this contest with your writers, consider the lessons we have posted.
