KMWP hosted its 2016 Literacy Conference, “Place, Play, and the Power of Writing,” on Saturday, March 19. Award-winning young adult author, Dr. Chris Crowe, of Brigham Young University was the Keynote Speaker. He shared his experiences as author, researcher, and teacher of young adult literature with participants inviting conversation around creative writing and the use of historical non-fiction in the classroom. Six metro-Atlanta educators delivered presentations to share strategies and ideas for teaching writing and reading across grade levels. Dr. Crowe closed out a wonderful day of learning with a writing workshop in which participants wrote and played with poetry writing Zombie poetry while discussing strategies for involving students in poetry in the classroom.
